Misinfo-Rx: A Toolkit for Healthcare Providers

Abstract: In clinical settings, providers are forced to grapple with the challenge of advising misinformed patients. Yet, addressing harmful misinformation during visits has been largely left out of medical education and training. Very little is known about how to do so. The MisinfoRx Toolkit was created to help address this gap and counter the impacts of . Grounded in recent research on mis- and , the MisinfoRx Toolkit provides strategies for addressing patient-held misinformation in clinical settings. Following the “Three C” approach, providers are encouraged to practice empathy, employ curiosity, and acknowledge resource constraints through collaborative conversations that aim to build trust within patient-provider relationships.
